    1. ★★★★★ This is a comfort re/read for me and I felt like I needed that earlier this week so out comes Gideon, Charles and Sarah. Last time I read LF was in 2012, before I did reviews, so it's getting reviewed this time around and retagged.I'd forgotten how much humor, dry and otherwise was in this series, especially this one. Gideon wants a wife, however, between his personality, his damaged body and requirements, this has been a harder task to complete than expected. Until Sarah who has [...]

    2. Gideon North wants a wife. Horribly injured and scarred from his Peninsular War service, Gideon does not want to deal with a wife who flinches every time she looks at him. Gideon’s estate manager Charles Borden was his sergeant in the war. Inseparable but almost always at odds, the two men agree that Sarah Whitley is the perfect wife for Gideon. Strong, beautiful and intelligent with a dry sense of humor, Sarah bears her own marks she has a birth mark on her face that she hides under big hats. [...]

    3. I liked this one, but it was yet another dip in the series for me. North's mood swings and his and Charles' inability to communicate became quite grating, and the story itself was just too long to maintain that amount of tension and melodrama. This isn't Pulitzer Prize winning stuff. This is erotic fiction. So if you're in the mood for something worthy of a Pulitzer, look elsewhere. If you are, however, in the mood to read a dirty story about a hot threesome with likable characters and an engagi [...]

    4. I am impressed with the way Samantha Kane appears to write about exactly the same thing in each of these books (you need to suspend belief that menage a trois are so prevalent and there are plenty of winsome girls ready to fall into such arrangements) and yet they can be very different. This was an unusual romance in that the 'hero' is disabled (besides the obligatory scars he has lost a leg). It was so refreshing to have someone disabled portrayed as not just sexually active but virile and sexy [...]

    5. I know, I know, I jumped out of order from book three to book 7. I have to say, though, that while the sex was not as smokin' hot as say, book one, this is the best Brothers in Arms book for me, yet. Not necessarily the emotions, either, as some of the other books have more of a true love feel. No, this one had more meat. (Oh stop you dirty minds) It had more characterization, more real problems, and more of a nod to the difficulty of a threesome. It also had far more historical detail, which I' [...]

    6. Lots of swinging back and forth on this one, lots of miscommunication and self-pity and refusals to understand the other person's viewpoint. Yes, it all got tiring.

    7. I get the idea of these books being mainly of sexual content, but the couple ones before this were actually kinda boring. This one was more elaborated and explored the issues this couple had on a different level. And it was possible to see how they dealed with their insecurities, besides their sexual encounters. And that made the sexual parts even sexier.

    8. We finally get Gideon North and Charles Borden’s story. We first met these two in RETREAT FROM LOVE. Anne Goode had gone to Blakley House to accept an offer of marriage from Gideon. She was trying to save Freddy from making the mistake of marrying when she felt she was unworthy of the title of Duchess. Thankfully Freddy and Brett came to their sense and married Anne. That, of course, left Gideon without a wife. This book picks up with Anne, having picked up the habit of interfering with people [...]

    9. 3.5 StarsThis is not only my first Samantha Kane book, but also my first historical-set story. As a big fan of MMF erotica, I try not to be too picky about the setting which is why I was open to a regency-set series where the male heroes are war veterans. Instead, I’ve become increasingly picky about the three main characters relationship and how the author takes her time to develop each character and make such an unconventional arrangement work in the long run. Normally, I start a series from [...]

    10. originally posted at whippedcream2/201Even the most strongly defended heart is no match for the conquest of love. I enjoyed this novel. The heroine, Sarah, is delightfully well rounded. Quiet and practical with a soft heart, Sarah suffers with a troubling birthmark that has set her apart in society. Gideon North suffers with the lingering effects of his service in the Peninsular War and the disfiguring injuries he acquired there. His injuries give him an interesting depth that is easy to sympath [...]

    11. This was a mixed bag for me. Some good places and some less then exciting parts. Gideon has been terribly scarred in the war and hides out on his estate raising horses with his best friend Charles. Gideon needs a wife and picks Sarah because she doesn't fear him and has her own mark, a large birthmark on her cheek. Gideon and Sarah both want the marriage and get on well from the very beginning and I appreciated that Kane didn't pursue that as an obvious angst avenue.Because this is Samantha Kane [...]

    12. I have enjoyed just about everything Samantha Kane has written, but this one has got to be one of her best. Kane writes M/M/F erotic romance featuring veterans of the Napoleonic wars. Her heroes endured the war by bonding, sometimes sexually, with another soldier. In this book (seventh in the series), Gideon and Charles have settled in England to raise horses together. Charles saved Gideon's life on the battlefield, but Gideon was terribly scarred in body, Charles in mind. Their one heated encou [...]

    13. This was a fairly difficult book to read not because it was badly written but because Gideon, Charles and Sarah were all emotionally damaged and Gideon and Sarah had physical disabilities that held them back. I did like that Sarah was so brave and willing to accept Gideon and Charles. I was impressed that being innocent and unused to men she was so willing to bring Charles and Gideon together as lovers. I was also glad that Sarah was open to exploring all the possibilities open to her concerning [...]

    14. Another great story. Gideon was a very captivating character that I enjoyed reading. The relationship between him and Charles was as beautiful as it was frustrating. This one will tug on the heart strings a bit. I must admit a shed a few tears here and there lol. I didn't care for Sarah to much but I did respect her and I admit she was good for the Charles and Gideon. I found her to be to worried about apperences. Even when she learned to accept her apperence she transfered those feelings to her [...]

    15. Love this series. This was a great addition, all the characters were well written and the storyline flowed perfectly. I am intrigued by romance stories with characters that have a disability or affliction of some sort. Gideon has lost part of his leg in the war and is ashamed of it. He needs a wife but thinks that no one can love him the way that he is now. Sarah has lived her life away from society because of a birthmark on her face. She is fine with it but she knows that society and most other [...]

    17. The latest in the Brothers in Arms series and every bit as good as the preceeding six novels. Perhaps this is just a bit harder to read because, while all the men in these stories are victims of the brutality and horrow of the Napoleonic War, the two men in this story not only have brought home inner wounds that don't seem to be able to heal, one of the men also has extensive external wounds that have come close to breaking his spirit. As in all these novels this is essentially a menage relation [...]

    18. Another great book by Samantha Kane. I know I am reading these out of order but they all can be read as stand alone stories. This is the story of one woman who brings realization to two difficult men of their love for each other. She heals them and makes the triad complete. One a suffering soldier that lost his leg and what he thinks as his life in the war and the other man who has stayed by his side through it all and would give anything for his love.It is very touching and the sex is good too. M [...]

    19. What a great story! Love's Fortress was my first book by this author, but I will be reading more from her. Not only was there excellent character development and a solid story line, but there was an unexpected complexity in the issues and relationships between the protagonists. Mistaking this book as a piece of fluff erotica would rob potential readers of a wonderful love story, the book appears to be well-researched, the sex scenes are both erotic and (dare I say?) intimate. A truly excellent r [...]

    20. This is the first book i have read on this series, and by Mrs. Kane. I like to read about taboo subjects, targeting adults, non conventional and completely untraditional.I was expecting a story about menage; Yes, and I indeed, did actually get one but with a twist, that it will be consider for many, too much, like i did. But expecting the unexpected, was exactly why i like this plot. I got the audio book, and i can assure you, it felt as if i was siiting in the front row.

    21. No matter is you are scared from a birthmark or from war you will find true love in someone that doesn't see the scars as ugly but as something additional to love. This is a very touching and emotional story.

    22. They just keep getting better and better. This is by far the funniest thing I've read in a M/M/F book"For heaven's sake, Gideon," she said with exasperation, "it isn't complicated mathematics. You simply need to suck it."

    23. Just wonderful. Kane sure knows how to heal the scarred in a trustworthy manner. The former book (no 6) didn't do it for me but this one sure did. Just read this series I will say

    24. i loved this book the greatest so far in the series the depth to all the characters was brilliant from the emotional pain and overcoming it this book is defiantly going to be a re-read

    25. Awesome love Samantha Lanes Brothers in Arms series I've read ever one they never get repetitive ! I look forward to the next!

    26. Again, this one makes it clear the relationship is equal among all three of them. Gideon is a fab tortured hero.
