    1. Not surprisingly, KD has written another wonderful story for the M/M Romance Group's annual DRitC event. This is a warm, touching story as the two men discover what is really important in their lives - the love of their partner and family. It is being able to help create a book such as this that makes all the event's hard work seem worthwhile. Thanks KD!

    2. Offered for FREE from the M/M Romance Group's Love Has No Boundaries Anthology: Volume 10. Thank you too all the amazing authors who participated!3.5 stars The first half was a full-on 4 star. I like both guys, I liked learning about the farm and then people who worked on it and lived there. But I'll admit it started dragging a little and I would have liked a little earlier/more physical progression to their relationship. At page 107 out of 110 I said out-loud, "this can't be right, there's no w [...]

    3. 5+ starsLoved this! Just the sweetest writing that makes me want to weep for it. The sensuality and gentle humor is amazing. And the imagery (reminds me a little of Cormac McCarthy, yes, I said that). I felt like I was actually on a horse riding the Texas prairie or staring up at the broad, star-lit night sky, or running from a double twister, or dust-covered and sweaty, walking down to the swimming hole. Gorgeous stuff. Sarge’s Louder Than Sirens, Louder Than Bells remains one of my favorites [...]

    4. Finished with a whimper I thought, just kind of petered out, didn't really get to see how he saved the ranch. Very sweet and very little sex.

    5. Completely wonderful sweet m/m cowboy romance. <3 Thank you elizabetta, for the rec, this book made my day.

    6. Well now I’m pissed! It’s over! ☹ This book is fantastic! This was such a realistic tale of ranch life and family it may have just moved to my favorite ranch story yet. There wasn’t any sort of glamorizing of the life or making things too easy. I loved the slow build of this novel. Soooooooo good!Cal wanted to go away to school, to prove he could do it, be away from the ranch that he loves. But hearing that his mother is struggling after getting injured changes his plans for the summer i [...]

    7. Short, sweet, and incomplete. 3.5 stars. In this cowboy romance, Cal comes home to Texas after going away to college for a year, and when he realizes that the family ranch will fall apart if he doesn't stay and hold it together, he decides that he isn't going back. So he breaks up with his college boyfriend, rolls up his sleeves, and starts working to save the ranch. There is a pleasant distraction, though -- Joseph. He is a brand new hand who works hard, but is clueless about ranching, and the t [...]

    8. 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5 because it's free. A sweet story between two very likeable guys. I really liked that Joseph (the tenderfoot) was very willing to work and to learn everything about being a cowboy. I liked the slowly unfolding romance between him and Cal, and my only real complaint is the same as other reviewers--I would have loved it to go on further. I would pay to read a sequel to this story that continues on with the guys exploring their relationshp, (view spoiler)[ the actual savin [...]

    9. I don't usually like slow-burn with out a payout at the end and sweet-no-sex stories must make sense (no fade to black please) or it's not worth reading for me (call me what you will, I like me some sexy times). That being said, I really enjoyed this story, even though I saw the solution to their problems early on. I like how they got to know each other, I like that each one had something to bring to the table. I would have liked to know more about Joseph and what brought him to Texas - there we [...]

    10. A beautiful story where we got to know the characters really well and be part of their lives, making ends meet on a ranch. The story was so sweet and rich that I completely didn't notice there was no sex in it. I felt like we were just peeking into their lives for just a brief moment. But what a moment it was.

    11. Don't get me wrong, I love K.D. Sarge's science fiction, but why oh why doesn't she write more contemporary? I want more of her cowboys. Especially, I want more of these cowboys.

    12. This is really good, the author either knows ranches or did her research. Working the ranch, side characters who added colour while staying in the background, family drama, history, elements at play, slow build of attraction. Got drawn in and enjoyed the story, but then it ended as if she ran out of time. It felt unfinished and there were things tucked in there that weren't developed.Jonathan's past is never explored, what made him come to the ranch; what the story with his friend was, why guns [...]

    13. This was a real-life look at a ranch in Texas. Cal is the son of the owner, coming back from college to help out, when he meets the new ranch hand, Joseph. Cal wants nothing more than to save his ranch and Joseph wants Cal. For a book where there was no sex, this was very sexy and very sweet. I would love a sequel to know how things end up with Cal and Joseph and the ranch.

    14. When Cal comes home from his first year at university, he discovers his family's Texan ranch is in dire straits and that his mother has hired a handsome city boy called Joseph to help out. Like Amy Rae Durreson's The Court of Lightning, this novella was written for the M/M Romance Group's annual challenge. It is a sweet romance with no sexually explicit content. There was a lot to like about Running Deer and Hidden Badger. Joseph's character is of Native American descent but is out of touch with [...]

    15. Main Characters: Callan Stonewall MacGregor & Joseph (aka Ki)Key Themes: Friends to Lovers, In the Closet, Non-explicit, UST, InterracialLocation: TexasTame romance between a Texan cowboy (Cal aka Hidden Badger) and a Native American boy from California (Joseph aka Running Deer).Although the story is told from both POVs, by the end I felt I knew Cal a lot better than I knew Joseph. Firstly, Joseph is not particularly assertive and he doesn't say much. Secondly, we aren't told a lot about his [...]

Joseph lavora [...]

    17. LHNB Story released 8.9.1320 year old Cal returns from college to his family's Texas ranch when his brother hints that something is wrong with their mother. There he meets Joseph, the new ranch hand, nicknamed Running Deer by the other hands. The pair are attracted to each other from the start, but this is Texas and being openly gay is not something Cal believes is an option. The story is very much a family drama, with his mother's failing health, his brother's determination to sell the ranch, d [...]

    18. Overall, this is a fine story, but truthfully it ends in the middle. This definitely didn't satisfy me, because it was damn to rushed. The main character in this story is Cal, the younger son, who comes back from college to help his Mother on their family ranch. There he meets a newly hired ranch hand Jonathan. Both MC liked working beside each other, but truly this isn't a romance. More it's a typical Cowboys story about a family ranch which is financially nearly broken and needs fixing. So the [...]

    19. 4.5 stars rounded up because it was part of LHNB.Cal comes home from college to help run his family's ranch. His mother has some physical ailments and he finds things have slipped. He meets Joseph, a new tenderfoot hand hired in his absence. While Cal starts off sort of childish and he stays stubborn, he also shows his determination and grit and I was really rooting for him and Joseph. We only get hints of Joseph's history and I think it ended too quickly but mostly because I wanted to spend mor [...]

    20. Loved it!Except for the abrupt ending. It wasn't even an ending really, it felt more like half a story. So much is left unfinished: there is an idea for the problem of the ranch but we don't know if it gets solved, Joseph's past remains a mystery, how mom is doing, will they be out on the ranchPlease tell me there is more to come. I need to know what happens next!

    21. So sweet with real life issues complicating the start of the relationship. The issues that the MCs faced on the ranch were originally different to most cowboy stories and I take my hat off to the author for that. I loved that different perspective.I just wished we could have traveled a little further along to see the MCs working as a couple.

    22. Wow! I have some negative personal history with a few Texas cowboys, so I was a little nervous about this book, but I really shouldn't have been! As usual, KD Sarge writes a story that is easy to fall into completely, with great characters I would love to meet. The romance is just lovely. My only complaint is my perpetual one with books I love: I wish it was longer. I want a sequel!

    23. I love this book. I forget how much I love a western setting, especially with a ranch and all it's work.I was disappointed where the book ended it happened so quickly without tying up what I feel are loose ends.I would really like to see the author continue with the characters and the ranch so we who enjoyed it so much can find out more!

    24. i really like kd sarge's style so i expected nothing but a good story. and that's exactly what i got. it is too short to satisfy me but it is still a nice story with a hot cowboy and sexy native-american-city-boy so i can't complain

    25. One of my favorite LHNB stories, this is the story of Cal and Joseph. It amazes me that KD Sarge and the other authors who contributed to this event have given us such a wonderful gift at no charge. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This one is terrific!

    26. This is awesome. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that the story ended abruptly, and I want to know what happens next!!! Beautiful writing. K.D I would love for you to expand on this or do a sequel. Please?

    27. A sweet (no-sex) story about a young man who quits college to go back and help on his mother's ranch. On the ranch Cal meets the new hand Joseph and as Cal teaches him the ropes they become friends and maybe something more.I though this was well done, with a decent plot.
