    1. A lovely story book about a bear who cares for and protects a family of white mice from three hungry predators. The illustrations are soft and appealing. The story offers lots of opportunities for emphasis of different character voices, punctuation and assonance. Moreover, (within a school setting) this book allows perhaps for a wider discussion regarding 'understanding the world', for example, the different animals that could be found in the forest, the different sounds that could be heard, and [...]

    2. I read this book last year whilst working in a school. It is a lovely illustrated book and a great story too. Scruffy Bear meets the six white mice who are too scared to go through the forest because of the dangerous predators, an owl, fox and snake. To get the mice through the forest and past the predators Scruffy Bear comes up with lots of ingenious ways to hide the mice. My favourite is the white moon apples! This book is very appealing to the eye and the kids love the clever ways the predato [...]

    3. I like the book scruffy bear because he helps the six white mice not get eten by a owl ,a fox,a snake.I like the character Scruffy bear because he is scruffy is intresting because we didn't know that he was going to be kind. Are favourite part was when he said the mice were snowballs to the owl.I will recommend this is a good book.

    4. I enjoyed this story but couldn't help thinking the whole time that it paints predators as bad guys which might confusion children about how an ecosystem works.

    5. This is a lovely story, and well told. The pictures complement the action perfectly, with sympathy and clarity. When out walking one day, Scruffy Bear happens upon a group of six white mice in need of help. They fear they will be eaten by owls, or foxes, or snakes and don't know what to do. Scruffy Bear helps them out when they eventually meet up with all the things they are scared of and outwits each adversary. I'll say no more, except to say that all turns out well for the mice. I can't wait t [...]

    6. This is so cute and has just stayed in my mind!!About a little bear, Scruffy Bear, who walks into the woods and rescues 6 white mice from being eaten by a fox, owl and snake. He tells them to curl (and tuck their tails in!) and then says they are things like snowballs that he is saving up for winter.Simple, but funny and imaginative. Pictures are clear.Would definately read aloud and read more of his books

    7. I like this book, it has a kind of old-time picture book charm (like the new version is Winnie the Pooh original stories). It's definitely a good character tricking bad characters to protect innocent characters. And it ends with a happy ending. I liked it, I found it to be a charming read and quite witty.

    8. I did not really like this one. It seemed to teach children to fear the forest and the animals that live there. Yes, we should be cautious about wild animals, HOWEVER, it is wrong-headed to create stories that teach children to fear nature. UGH! I did not like this one.

    9. Gorgeous animal illustrations, one clever (if scruffy) little bear, narrative tension and relief: the perfect picture book combination!
